Step Beyond Motivation with the #WalkingWarriors Commitment: A Community Movement

As we approach the end of the month and look forward to continuing our journey, we invite everyone, whether you've been with us from the start or are just discovering our community, to join the #WalkingWarriors commitment. There's no better time than now to start or renew your commitment to daily walking. Together, we can keep the momentum going, supporting each other every step of the way.

“Motivation is bullshit!” says Mel Robbins, one of my favorite authors and people to follow online. In her book, The Five Second Rule, she discusses how often we wait for a spark of motivation to get us moving—a method that often fails to work. She explains the psychological and physiological responses that occur when we decide to do something and count down from five to take that initial step.

This method is how I often kickstart my actions. Once I’m involved, I feel inspired, and almost every time I finish, I’m elated! This pattern is true for many activities that bring me peace, joy, and euphoria—activities that require effort and my decision to engage, such as working out, going to church, meditating, having sex, playing or singing music, and enjoying quality face-to-face time with loved ones.

Honestly, I tend to keep myself very "busy" and deeply involved in checking off my to-do list, sometimes making it hard to prioritize these fulfilling activities. And I am almost always 100% happy when I decide to just do it!

While motivation can be fleeting, accountability and community are quite the opposite—especially within our Wellness Warrior Community. There’s nothing like voicing your commitment to people who will offer encouragement and support. If you keep your goals, dreams, and desires only in your mind, that’s exactly where they’ll stay.

Isn’t it interesting how we often break promises to ourselves, yet strive to keep the promises we make to others?

So let’s continue to promise ourselves and to our community to take steps every day.

The more thought we put into how, why, and with whom, the better our chances of making it happen.

How many steps? For me, it's been 10,000+ a the goal. I’m still figuring out what this will look like over time. I invite you to find a number that challenges you yet is achievable. Remember, this community is a comparison-free zone, free from shame. Do what feels good.

When will you continue to get your steps in? In the morning? Are you going to incorporate it into your morning routine. At lunch? In between appointments? While waiting in the pickup line? After supper?

And with whom? Alone? With your dog? With family members? Friends? Co-workers? In a community park where others are walking too?

It’s always exhilarating to continue something you’ve started, especially something as beneficial as committing to thousands of steps a day. Let’s keep the excitement alive and our steps going!
